Alpaca fiber is stronger, lighter and more resilient than wool...finer than cashmere and equal or superior in warmth to Gortex. And of course it is 100% natural and good for the environment. Unlike wool, no harsh toxic chemicals are needed to process alpaca as it contains no lanolin oils.

Meet someone who has owned a quality alpaca sweater and they will tell you about its unique comfort, encasing warmth, breathability and soothing softness. Alpaca fiber comes NATURALLY in 22 different colors! It also dyes very well, holds its color and blends superbly with silk and other fibers.

Alpaca is naturally hypoallergenic. It lacks the lanolin and other oils seen in other natural fleeces. Its fineness will be noticed as you don't feel the scratchiness felt with wool. Most people who are allergic to the itchiness or get a rash from wool will cherish being able to wear alpaca!

PurelyAlpaca is a company which started from a picture. The company founders first learned of alpacas in 1998 while looking through a magazine on a business flight. They just loved the LOOK of the animals and wanted to know more. After a couple of years of research they began their first alpaca farm on an island in the Pacific Northwest, near Seattle. The farm has been very successful in its own right, producing multiple-award winning prize alpacas.

Soon after starting the farm Frieda and Brian Schieber opened a small farm store, showcasing alpaca products to their many farm visitors (the farm being in a tourist area). The first retail web store was opened in 2002. The demand for quality alpaca products was much higher than anticipated with 100%+ growth per year!

Since the beginning, PurelyAlpaca.com has offered new features, more customer services and a wider collection of quality products. Frieda and Brian Schieber and the staff of PurelyAlpaca love the industry and greatly enjoy seeking out new and exciting examples of "wearable art" made with luxurious naturally unique alpaca fiber. With new designers and manufacturers getting into this exciting industry, alpaca clothing and gift offerings continue to expand at an exciting pace.
